World-renowned Dutch violinist Isabelle van Keulen directs the Scottish Chamber Orchestra string players from the violin in this programme, which includes Mendelssohn’s youthful Symphony No 9 ‘Swiss’. Mendelssohn wrote the work when he was just fourteen
years old following a family sightseeing trip to Lucerne, inspired by his beloved alpine landscape. Van Keulen steps up as soloist for Taktakishvili’s Concerto No 2 for Violin and Strings, and closes the concert with Tchaikovsky’s lively Souvenir de Florence, which he
wrote in the last sunny spell of his life.
